After a tough weekend, the Yellow Jackets were looking to bounce back for their home finale, as they welcomed in Georgia Southern to Russ Chandler Stadium.
After being down 12-5 in the 7th inning, the Yellow Jackets scored 8 unanswered runs to complete the comeback to walk off the Eagles.
Stephen Reid had the biggest hit of the night as he hit a game tying two-out grand slam in the 8th inning. But that wasn’t all. In the 9th inning, Nicholas Romano hit a ball up the middle and then Brandon Prince would come in and be a pinch runner. Prince then immediately stole second base. Chandler Simpson then drew a walk for his second walk of the night, before Andrew Jenkins would come up and hit the two-out walk-off winner.
On the mound, LHP Camron Hill and RHP Coke McNamee both came in and stood out to hold the game steady. Hill came in and shined with 1.1 innings of no-hit work. Then McNaMee would come in and shut the Eagles down in the top of the 9th, with Kevin Parada contributing by cutting off Georgia Southern’s runner caught stealing.
It was a win that the Yellow Jackets desperately needed and they got it done. It wasn’t the prettiest, but they took care of business. Incredible fight in this team to not give up and to keep battling.
Georgia Tech will now head to Ohio as they will face Akron and Kent State next Monday and Tuesday, before finishing out the regular season on the road at Pittsburgh.
