After a tough weekend in Charlottesville, the Yellow Jackets returned home to welcome in the Spartans of USC Upstate for a little midweek action.
After dropping last year’s game to the Spartans, it was definitely a game the Yellow Jackets wanted to run away with. Needless to say, they accomplished that goal very easily.
Georgia Tech hit 6 home runs on the day and scored a grand total of 27 runs on 23 hits, thanks to a big offensive performance. The Yellow Jackets scored 12 runs alone in what was a big 8th inning. They tied the school record for most base hits in a single inning with 10. The 12 run inning was the most for Georgia Tech since their game on May 18th, 2018 against Duke.
On the mound, Georgia Tech used 8 pitchers on the night. Starter, RHP John Medich went two innings; Medich allowed just 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 2. In relief, LHP Sam Crawford and LHP Camron Hill each had shutout appearances. Crawford pitched for 2 innings and Hill pitched for 1 inning.
At the plate, Jake DeLeo led the way, going 5-for-6. DeLeo hit a triple and blasted a home run for 5 RBI. Also contributing, Kevin Parada hit a double and crushed a home run for 3 RBI. Drew Compton also smoked a two run home run and drew an RBI walk. Tim Borden II also added in more runs with a home run and finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lastly, Nicholas Romano and John Anderson also both hit a home run a piece.
After many weeks of being out due to an undisclosed injury, Chandler Simpson made his return to the lineup for the first time since March 13th. Simpson went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI, 2 walks, and 2 stolen bases. Not a bad start for a guy coming back from an injury and would seem that he would be a little rusty. But not Chandler Simpson; That kid is as tough as nails.
The Yellow Jackets are now 19-11 and will look to keep the win streak alive, as they head into some more ACC play this weekend.
Georgia Tech will remain in Atlanta for the time being, as they welcome in the Florida State Seminoles to Russ Chandler Stadium this weekend for a huge matchup.
First pitches are scheduled for 6pm, 4pm, and 2pm. Game 1 and game 2 will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra, as game 3 will be nationally televised on the ACC Network. You can also listen to each game on WREK 91.1 FM.
