Before Georgia welcomes Mississippi State to Foley Field this weekend, they welcome the Spartans in a midweek battle. USC Upstate is 11-5 and has notable wins against Boston College and Cincinnati so far this season. They are coming off a weekend series win against Northern Kentucky in which they scored 20 runs on Friday.
The Bulldogs are smack-dab in the middle of a seven-game homestand in which they are 3-0 so far after the weekend series sweep of Lipscomb. Georgia is currently 13-3 and needs to tack on as many wins as they can before a gauntlet of a conference schedule begins this weekend with Mississippi State.
Georgia is batting .297 as a team this season, led by Ben Anderson and Cole Tate, who are hitting .375 and .362 respectively. Corey Collins has been huge in the power department as well, increasing his home run count to 6 last weekend.
Freshman Coleman Willis (0-0, 2.08) gets the start for the Bulldogs. The 6’7 right-hander from Warner Robins, Georgia has seen action in 3 games this year and has only allowed one earned run in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Control has been an issue so far for the young gun, issuing seven walks over his innings pitched, but he’ll look to give the Dawgs enough to win.
USC Upstate has not announced a starter or an official lineup as of yet, but the projected lineup for Georgia is as follows:
- CF Ben Anderson
- SS Cole Tate
- 3B Josh McAllister
- 2B Cory Acton
- 1B Parks Harber
- LF Connor Tate
- DH Corey Collins (or Cole Wagner)
- RF Chaney Rogers (or Garrett Spikes)
- C Fernando Gonzalez
