The Ole Miss Rebels were down in a midweek game for the first time since nearly forever. When the Rebs desperately needed a comeback, Tim Elko was there to spark it. A pop-up to 1st Base that seemed routine ended up being somewhat muddy. Elko, who should have been shading his body towards the bag, felt the need to get under the pop-up to ensure his teammates wouldn’t get in the way. He made the catch and out-stepped the runner who was meant to be on first and created a huge double play.
The rundown at 1st Base was subsequently reviewed. It was officially scored as a twin killing.
The Rebels ended up losing their final game before conference action begins (5-1), but Bianco got to see the truest colors of some of his bullpen staff. The fans will be upset with the loss, but with a weekend against Auburn looming, it would be foolish to think that the Mighty Rebs aren’t going to remain Omaha favorites.
