#1 Texas travels to Don Sanders Stadium to take on the Bearkats of Sam Houston, who have had a rollercoaster of a season so far. The Kats took three out of four from Nebraska to start the year, followed that up with an extra-innings victory over #4 Oklahoma State, but then got swept by Dallas Baptist last weekend. Texas, on the other hand, has started 8-0 and has outscored their opponents 62-8.
Texas is batting .294 as a team and has walked a whopping forty-eight times in just eight games. The power numbers are not good so far, having only hit four home runs as a team, but it’s still early in the season and we will likely see those rapidly increase.
Probably the most impressive stat for Texas is their team ERA. It’s currently at 0.50 after only allowing one run the entire weekend in their sweep of Alabama.
The good news for Bearkat fans is that the team is 3-1 at home and beginning a span of eight straight home games. You could also see Texas overlook Sam Houston due to the tough weekend slate coming up for the Longhorns where they will face #17 Tennessee, #7 LSU, and UCLA.
First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville, Texas. The game will be available on ESPN+.
RHP Andre Duplantier (1-0, 0.00) gets the start for Texas and RHP Cole Wesneski (1-0, 2.57) will oppose him for Sam Houston. Wesneski helped pick up the win against Oklahoma State last week, going four shutout innings and allowing only three hits. Duplantier has appeared twice so far this season, once in relief against Rice and started against A&M-Corpus Christi. He’s pitched a total of five innings and struck out five while only walking two.
Starting lineups have not been announced as of yet.
