Coming off of a solid win against Presbyterian, Georgia Tech welcomed in the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs to Russ-Chandler Stadium this past weekend.
On the mound Friday night, RHP Chance Huff pitched a beauty. He struck out nine batters, allowing just one hit and sitting down ten-straight batters to end his day. Freshman LHP Camron Hill came in to close. He went three shutout innings for his first collegiate save.
At the plate Friday night, Drew Compton led the way, going 3-for-4. He had a three RBI night, along with a double and his fourth home run of the season. Also contributing to the win, Chandler Simpson hit a grand slam, along with four RBI. Kevin Parada also hit his second homer of the year.
The Yellow Jackets would then be forced to play a double header on Saturday, due to Mother Nature interfering for the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
On the mound for game 2 on Saturday afternoon, RHP Zach Maxwell pitched a gem. He went six innings, striking out 11 batters and allowing just one run on three hits and giving up two walks. In relief, RHP Marquis Grissom Jr pitched the next two innings, giving up three runs. Finally, RHP Cort Roedig came in and slammed the door shut with three strikeouts to close the game.
At the plate for game 2 on Saturday afternoon, Kevin Parada led the way. He went 4-for-4, with two home-runs, a double, and six RBI.
On the mound for game 3 on Saturday afternoon, RHP Aeden Finateri went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits. In relief, LHP Luke Bartnicki came in and got his first win of the season, holding the Running Bulldogs to no hits over the next two innings. LHP Joseph Mannelly then came in and only had 1.1 innings of one-hit work. RHP Dawson Brown closed out the game, getting his second save of the season.
At the plate for game 3 on Saturday afternoon, Kevin Parada contributed with a double, along with Tres Gonzalez hitting a double, Drew Compton with a sac fly, and John Giesler with an RBI. Kevin Parada would give the Yellow Jackets some cushion with a bases clearing, three RBI double in the bottom of the eighth.
The Yellow Jackets would then secure the sweep and now get ready to face the Georgia State Panthers this Tuesday evening at 5pm.
That game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and WREK 91.1 FM.
After the midweek, the Bulldogs of Georgia come calling for a little Clean-Old-Fashioned Hate this weekend. Friday, the Yellow Jackets will host Georgia in Atlanta before the two play in Athens on Saturday and Lawrenceville Sunday.
