Florida State, Georgia Tech tabbed favorites in surprisingly strong ACC

Thursday, the Atlantic Coast Conference released its annual preseason coaches poll for college baseball. Florida State tops the Atlantic Division with 88 overall points, while Georgia Tech leads the Coastal Division at 91.

Right behind the Seminoles in the Atlantic are NC State (76) and Notre Dame (70). The Irish out-gained the Wolfpack in first-place votes with three total to State’s one, but trail in overall points.

Meanwhile, the Coastal features a pair of teams contending with the Yellow Jackets in Virginia (77) and Miami (71).

NC State and Virginia are coming off strong finishes to the 2021 season after reaching Omaha, while Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami and Notre Dame all made the NCAA Tournament and received a ranking at some point last spring.

Realistically, the conference can be won by any of these six teams, with Louisville, Duke, UNC and Clemson looking to join the party as well.

The ACC certainly has quality baseball compared to most conferences this season, even if it isn’t the mighty SEC.

It looks as though these two conferences will lead the way to Omaha, but could it be the year the ACC winds up on top? The storied baseball conference has not won the College World Series since 2015 (Virginia) and suffered a drought dating back to 2001 (Miami) before that.

Is this the year that finally changes? Let us know below!
