South Florida Gives Texas All It Can Handle In Game One, But Falls 4-3

Texas looked to be in firm control for most of the game Saturday night, going up by three and shutting out the Bulls. Until the 9th inning.

Daniel Cantu led off the ninth with a solo home run to finally get USF on the board. UT’s Tanner Witt comes back to strikeout the next batter and then gets a fly out. Two outs. 3-1. Backs against the wall, Jarrett Eaton doubles to bring the tying run to the plate. Billy Mohl, the Bulls Head Coach, who made the decision to make a change at the DH spot in the 7th, replacing Nelson Rivera with Drew Brutcher, would be rewarded for it when Brutcher homered on a 3-2 count to right field to tie the game at 3.

This excitement would be short lived by the South Florida Bulls as Eric Kennedy would walk off for the Longhorns on an RBI double to center field. Strangely enough, with a runner on first, USF was not playing no doubles positioning in the outfield. This now-recognizably poor decision would cost South Florida the game and force them into elimination mode as these two teams will square off again on Sunday at 9 P.M. ET.

Spotlight:

UT Eric Kennedy: 2-3, 2 RBI, run

Ty Madden: 6 2/3 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 9 K

USF Drew Brutcher: 1-1, HR, 2 RBI, BB

Daniel Cantu: 2-4, RBI, run
