The Ole Miss Rebels came to Foley Field this weekend and took 2 out of 3 from the Bulldogs in the series finale of the 2021 regular season.

Game one on Thursday night was the Doug Nikhazy show. He went 7 full innings, only giving up 4 hits, and striking out 13 Bulldogs. Luke Wagner was matching him pitch for pitch until the 2nd inning when he took a line drive off the leg and had to leave the game. Michael Polk came in and gave arguably his best performance of his career, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up only 2 runs on three hits against a very good Rebel’s lineup. Even with this performance, Nikhazy was too much for Georgia and they would lose 2-0.

Georgia jumped out to a 5-1 through 7 innings in game two before the Rebs break through for 4 in the 8th to tie the game. It would stay 5-5 until the 11th inning when Ole Miss got 3 RBI singles to take an 8-5 lead and that would be the final. Liam Sullivan started the game for the Bulldogs and was fantastic for 5 1/3 innings only giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 6. Jaden Woods and Ben Harris, who had been the anchors for this banged up Bulldogs bullpen, went a combined 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 7 hits.

Saturday was Georgia’s senior day where they celebrated the great careers of 11 of their players. They would send these seniors off with a bang in a 13-2 slaughtering of the Rebels. Jonathan Cannon was fantastic going 7 innings only giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 8. It was a total team effort on the offensive side, highlighted by Josh McAllister, Garrett Blaylock, and Riley King who combined for 10 of the team’s 13 RBIs.

Georgia ends the season with a record of 30-23 (13-17 SEC) and the 8th seed in the SEC tournament. They’ll face 9th seed LSU (34-21, 13-17 SEC) on Tuesday at 4:30 PM in Hoover, AL.
