Ranking the uniforms of SEC Softball

With the SEC Tournament taking place last week in Tuscaloosa for the 13 participating SEC Softball programs, I thought it’d be fun to rank the best softball uniform sets in the conference.

Let’s start at the bottom and move to the top.

Coming in at No. 13 are the Mississippi State Bulldogs. State tried to replicate the Sunday Blacks the baseball team wears for their softball uniforms, which I can respect. However, I am not a fan of the full length pants on many of their uniforms and the colors offer little to work with for softball.

Coming in at No. 12 is South Carolina. The Gamecocks have some decent sets of uniforms for football and baseball, but something about these softball uniforms I just don’t like. The colliding shoulder stripes on most of them are plain ugly.

At No. 11 we have the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies have a number of hideous softball uniforms, but earned the No. 11 spot for this solid alternate. Big fan of this jersey.

At No. 10 is Kentucky. Just like baseball, there’s nothing that really stands out in the Wildcats’ set of uniforms. The checkers across the socks and a few sleeves are a nice touch, but it’s an otherwise bland set.

At No. 9 is the Ole Miss Rebels. It’s hard to go wrong with the colors Ole Miss has available. Baseball executes those options to perfection, but softball just isn’t as impressive for me. Too much going on here in this powder blue set.

At No. 8 in the list we have the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia is another team with a great set of colors, but their latest set of softball uniforms aren’t the best. I’m just going to say it. These could be so much better. Not a fan of the big logo on the front. Need more pop. Fix these by next season.

Coming in at No. 7 we have the Auburn Tigers. I am a fan of flashy uniforms for softball, but it’s hard to hate on Auburn’s classic looks. The pant stripe integrated over from football is just such a classic and it blends well here. The teams ahead of Auburn are absolutely stacked, so I want to get ahead of myself and say I absolutely love this set. Way, way better than the team above it at No. 8.

Coming in at No. 6 on the list is Missouri. Missouri usually has pretty mediocre uniforms with its modern Mizzou font and the colors of yellow and black. However, their softball sets are awesome. Big fan of the vibrant yellow pants.

At No. 5 on our list we have the LSU Tigers. LSU has had some solid sets over the years and it’s become a common trend to see these uniforms on the timeline and SportsCenter thanks to some of the plays made by their outfield this year. These purple pants with the white top are great. Just the right amount of gold too. A stellar uniform. Bonus points for the Tiger eye helmets too.

Coming in at No. 4 we have the Florida Gators. Florida is probably the SEC program most associated with softball at this point. The Gators are always on TV and dominating thanks to Kelly Barnhill, Delanie Gourley and several other stars over the years. Florida’s past sets have been excellent with a great blend of orange and blue. Not too big on the current Nike template for Florida, but still an absolutely incredible uniform set. Florida is SEC Softball.

At No. 3 on our list we have the Alabama Crimson Tide. If there’s anyone with tradition, excellence and pure elegance on the field, it’s Alabama. These folks win at damn near everything. Big, big fan of the Tide’s classic looks through crimson and white. The alternate sets for softball are ok, but it’s the white top with crimson bottoms that stand out from all the rest. Love the script Bama too. “We’re Bama and we’re going to kick your ass” …

At No. 2 on the list are the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Hogs have a couple of decent alternate looks, but it’s this uniform that puts them so high on the list. Something about that white top with crimson/cardinal pants.

Coming in at No. 1 by a landslide is Tennessee. Aside from Florida and maybe Alabama, the Lady Vols have been the face of college softball in the SEC. Think what you want on the creamsicle colored Vols. Some people love em, some people hate em. There is not a bad set in Tennessee’s softball uniform palette. Even the alternate gray’s are executed to perfection.

My favorite of them all has to be this one though: Add in the Carolina Blue trim for “Lady Vols” with this elite set and you have the best uniforms in all of college softball.
