On a cloudy day at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Session 2 of the SEC softball tournament began with the Mississippi St Bulldogs beating in state rival Ole Miss to advance to the next round of the tournament.
Mississippi St struck early after 3 straight singles and a walk followed by an Addison Purvis single to make it 2-0.
The score would stay at 2-0 until the top of the 3rd when Carter Spexarth hit a homer to right making it 3-0 in favor of the dogs.
In the bottom of the 4th Ole Miss would attempt to get on the scoreboard on a single to left but would be denied after the runner was caught between 3rd and home. However, Ole Miss would get on the scoreboard in the 4th on a Tate Biringer sac fly.
That would be all the scoring that would happen for today’s game. Mississippi St would hold on to win 3-1 and advances till tomorrow.
Up next for Mississippi St is the #1 seed the Florida Gators tomorrow at 11:00 AM from Rhoads Stadium.
Up next for Ole Miss is NCAA regionals. Ole Miss should no doubt receive a regional invite when the selection committee reveals the bracket on Sunday night.
However, their destination is still very much unknown at this point.
It will be interesting to see if the surging Bulldogs can make a late NCAA Tournament push.
