Georgia will be looking for its second series win against a #1 ranked team this weekend against Arkansas. The Hogs are finally returning home after 2 consecutive road series and will be trying to continue the consistent dominance they have shown all year long.

Arkansas is 34-8 (15-6 SEC) on the year and sport an impressive 14-4 record against RPI top 25 teams. They took 2 of 3 against LSU last weekend, winning the double header and losing 5-4 in the finale. The Razorbacks score 8.3 runs per game with 5 players hitting above .300 and 4 players with at least 10 home runs. Arkansas currently holds a one game lead over Mississippi State in the SEC West.

Georgia will try to right to ship after losing 2 of 3 and gifting Auburn its first SEC series win last weekend. The Dawgs are 27-16 (10-11 SEC). They currently sit at 6th in the SEC East and this is no doubt a huge series for them, especially if Kentucky can somehow squeeze out a series win against Florida. They are 4-6 against Arkansas under Coach Strickin, but they are winners of three consecutive matchups against the Hogs.

Probable Starters:

Friday: Liam Sullivan vs. Patrick Wicklander

Freshman Liam Sullivan is 1-0 with a 4.74 ERA in 12 relief appearances and will be making his first career start. He pitched beautifully in his last appearance, throwing 4 shutout innings and only allowing 1 hit while striking out 5 against Auburn on May 1st.

Patrick Wicklander is 3-1 on the year with a microscopic 1.89 ERA. He’s coming of 6.2 scoreless innings giving up only 3 hits and striking out 5 in his last start against LSU on April 30th.

Saturday: Jonathan Cannon vs. Peyton Pallete

Jonathan Cannon is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA. He went 7 IP giving up 3 ER on 5 hits and striking out 2 in a no decision against Auburn in his last start.

Peyton Pallete is 1-2 with a 4.02 ERA in 2021. He went 4 IP giving up 2 ER against LSU in his last start on May 1st.

Sunday: Ryan Webb vs. TBA

Ryan Webb is 3-3 in his 2021 campaign with a 3.04 ERA. He’ll look to be as dominant as he was against Auburn last time out, throwing 6 innings of 1 hit, shutout ball. He’ll be looking at a different situation though this time, as he is used to starting on Friday. He has been shifted to the finale in an attempt to change it up after last weekend’s series loss.

Players to Watch:

Charlie Welch (ARK) will hope to keep his bat hot as he is hitting .355/5/12 in 13 games this season for the Hogs.

Kevin Copps (ARK) is coming off a historic April, winning the National College Baseball Writers Associations’ National Pitcher of the Month. He owns a 6-0 record with a 0.85 ERA. Copps has struck out 75 batters in 42.1 IP in 2021.

Connor Tate (UGA) will try to extend his current 23-game on-base streak this weekend. He is slashing .351/10/30 on the year and will need to continue that hot streak if Georgia wants to steal this series.

Josh McAllister (UGA) burst back onto the scene on Saturday with a home run after missing time due to injury. McAllister has been one of Georgia’s best hitters when he’s healthy, hitting .354/8/21 and they hope he can contribute in a big way this weekend.

Can the Bulldogs bounce back? Nando thinks so.

“I think we know how good we are, the confidence that everyone has, and how loose we play, I think we’re in a good spot… we’re gonna do whatever it takes to come back the next weekend and win.” Catcher Fernando Gonzalez said in a post game interview after last weekend’s loss to Auburn.
