The #5 Tennessee Volunteers 34-11 (14-7) gear are catching a plane to Columbia, Missouri this week to take on the Tigers 12-29 (5-16). Tennessee is looking to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season. The Vols are tied atop the SEC East standings with Vanderbilt, with 3 weeks left in the season to make a push for the outright top seed. A series loss this week would be devastating to the Vols moving into tournament play.
Tennessee is coming off a great series win at home against the Kentucky Wildcats, winning 2-of-3. Tennessee did struggle to get the offense going in their single loss on Saturday but left no doubt about how good this team can be in the two games they won. If the Vols can keep the offense rolling, they are poised to make a statement this weekend as they take on a badly struggling Missouri team.
The Missouri Tigers are coming off a devastating series sweep at Alabama. April and May have not been kind to the Tigers, as they have lost 10 of their last 12 SEC games. The Tigers are at the bottom of the SEC in almost every statistical category. Including last in the SEC in batting average (.236), ERA (7.34), on-base % (.332), runs scored (211, 110 less than Tennessee), along with several other categories. Missouri is looking to spoil Tennessee’s fun this weekend as they try to steal the series from the #5 Vols.
