Georgia Tech completed their 6 game road trip as they headed to Durham, North Carolina to face the Duke Blue Devils. The Yellow Jackets managed to win both Friday and Saturday night to easily win the series. But they couldn’t complete the sweep, as they fell short on Sunday afternoon.
On Friday night, Brant Hurter started on the mound for the Yellow Jackets and did not disappoint. He went seven really good innings. He struck out seven, while issuing only two runs and just one walk. Luke Bartnicki closed it out with two shutout innings and struck out three for his second save on the year.
Tech really came through offensively on Friday night, thanks to Justyn-Henry Malloy and Kevin Parada who hit back-to-back home runs in the third. Kevin Parada was only just a double shy of the cycle. Also, guys like Drew Compton and Jake DeLeo contributed with two hits apiece and an RBI each also.
On Saturday night, Andy Archer started on the mound for the Yellow Jackets and was lights out once again. He had a career night on the mound as Georgia Tech shut out Duke. Andy went a career long eight innings and had 109 pitches. He struck out a tied career high with nine. Zach Maxwell came in to close the game and struck out three, completing his third save on the season.
Offense kicked in again on Saturday night. Justyn-Henry Malloy went 2-for-4 with a double. Jake DeLeo also had a double and Austin Wilhite and Brad Grenkoski each had a hit. Brad Grenkoski had the RBI off of his hit. Can’t forget to mention cool hand Luke Waddell, who hit his fourth home run on the year, helping the Yellow Jackets extend the lead by three.
On Sunday afternoon, Sam Crawford started on the mound for the Yellow Jackets. He received the loss, going just 2.2 innings, giving up five runs on five hits. Over the whole day, Georgia Tech used six pitchers in relief.
Only spark on offense Sunday afternoon, was Justyn-Henry Malloy’s home run and Tres Gonzalez, who both had three hits on the day. Kevin Parada and Austin Wilhite both had a two hit day. While Luke Waddell also recorded a sac fly RBI.
The Yellow Jackets will now travel back home as they’re set to face the Virginia Cavaliers this weekend. First pitches are scheduled for 7PM, 6PM, and 1PM. You can watch those games on ACC Network Extra or listen live at WREK 91.1 FM.
