SoundBites of the Series: Mississippi State sweeps Eastern Michigan

For the first time this season, Mississippi State has brought out the brooms. Following each of their 3 victories against Eastern Michigan, the Bulldogs had the opportunity to sit down with the press, and discuss the events of that day, and an outlook on the future to come. Below are the transcript highlights from Chris Lemonis, Logan Tanner, and more.

Friday March 12th 2021

Chris Lemonis when asked about the status of former Bulldog infielder Landon Jordan:

“Landon is no longer with us. He decided that he didn’t want to be on the team anymore. We sat down and spoke, and he’s gonna move in another direction.”

“I was surprised, but we have some really talented guys. So it’s just next man up and we’ll have somebody step up. Obviously we are disappointed, but some of the younger guys and some of the older guys will step in there and give us the opportunity to win games.

Lemonis when asked about the status of Freshman Third Baseman Kellum Clark:

“He’s in the medical world right now. So he’s probably got a couple of more days. He won’t be available this weekend.”

Christian MaCleod when asked about his confidence in the bullpen:

“It’s hard to describe how much confidence I have in the bullpen. [….] Everybody is just getting out there and throwing strikes, and getting us back in the dugout so we can put runs on the board.

Chris Lemonis when asked about the quality start of Eric Cerantola after a rough start to the year:

“He was like that in our preseason. Getting him out of the first was huge… getting a changeup up with his only blemish he had the whole day.”

Lemonis when asked about the effect of the crowd on the game:

“The crowd is there. They are always there. It’s a very knowledgeable crowd, they know what’s going on in the game and they know when to get loud. We talked about in in the dugout before the game, what we call the “Dude Effect” where the Dude takes over and the fans take over. It becomes very hard for our opponent to compete and win. It lets our team have a little energy and a little excitement because of the ballpark and fanbase we have.

Logan Tanner when asked about his Walk Off Home Run:

“We knew it was do or die, and we didn’t want to die so we had to do. And so we went out there and got the dub.”

Sunday March 14th 2021

Chris Lemonis when asked about the potential starting rotation vs LSU:

“I think Will [Bednar] is at a point now where we were kinda wanting about 60 pitches and 3 innings out of him today. He gave us about 50 pitches in 4 innings, so he looked good. He has both pitches for strikes, velo was good, so we’ll evaluate. We feel good having all those weapons available for the weekend.”

Will Bednar when asked about his performance on the mound and his recovery from injury:

“I feel good today, happy to keep building up and building up pitch count and excited for next week. I’m gonna do whatever else it really takes to help the team.”
