Miller is Lights Out, As Aggies Blank New Mexico State 5-0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The Texas A&M Aggies got another solid start from starter Bryce Miller, en route to a 5-0 shutout victory against New Mexico State on Saturday afternoon at Blue Bell Park. The fans in attendance were treated to an amazing start from senior Bryce Miller, who struck out a career high 15 batters in 7 innings of work. This is the second consecutive night the Aggies have gotten solid work from their starting pitchers after Saenz went 7.2 innings in the win on Friday night. Coming into the season, pitching was the big question mark this team had. After 12 games it seems like the Aggies are looking like the rotations of old. This rotation makes you feel like you can win with 4 or 5 runs a night.

Offensively the Aggies were lead by Ty Coleman who went 2-4 with 2 RBIs. The Aggies also got RBI contributions from Trevor Werner and Kalee Harrison. Will Frizell also went 5-5 on the afternoon, shockingly finishing with zero RBIs. The Aggies finished with 11 hits on the afternoon.

The Aggies got the scoring started early, when in the bottom of the second they plated a run, the Kalee Harrison drew a bases loaded walk, to make the score 1-0. The score would stay 1-0 until the 7th inning, when the Aggies would plate 3 runs. The Aggies got the scoring started in the 7th when Ray Alejo scored on a wild pitch. Ty Coleman would then drive in Barker and Frizell to make it 4-0, before Werner scored Coleman with a 2 out single, making the score 5-0.

The 5 runs would be more than enough for Aggie starter Bryce Miller. Miller as stated earlier had a career day on Saturday. He struck out 15 batters including striking out the last 3 batters he faced. The Aggie pitchers actually struck out the last 9 batters they faced to finish the game with 21 total strikeouts. Jozwiak came on in the 8th inning for Miller and sat down all 6 batters he faced on strikes.

The Aggies have definitely found their identity after struggling early. These teams are almost always built on pitching and defense and this year is proving to be no different. The Boys of Olsen will look to finish the sweep tomorrow when these teams face off at 1PM central. Jonathan Childress will get the start for the Aggies. The game will be live streamed on SECNetwork+.
