Auburn soars past Boston College to set up rubber match on Sunday

Saturday, the Auburn Tigers soared past Boston College by a score of 16 to 1 to set up a Sunday rubber-match at Plainsman Park.

The Tigers plated five runs in a lengthy first inning, after a grand slam by Cam Hill in the DH spot with two outs. Soon after, Auburn added to its lead with three runs in the 3rd, three in the 4th and four in the 5th to take a 15-0 lead.

BC plated one run in the Top of the 6th to stop the shutout, but it was far too late to make a comeback attempt. Then, Auburn added one more with a solo shot by Rankin Woley in the 7th.

With the blowout win for Auburn, a massive rubber-match is now setup for Sunday.

Auburn improves to 7-3 on the season, while BC falls to 7-2 with the loss. The Tigers will look for a big series win on Sunday following a relatively disappointing showing in the Round Rock Classic last weekend and a rainout in the midweek against Jacksonville State.

Meanwhile, Boston College is in danger of dropping its first series of the season. The Eagles began their 2021 campaign with a series sweep of Charleston Southern before taking two out of three from a ranked Duke squad on the road.

This will be a game to keep an eye on Sunday as the winner likely stays in the back half of the Top 25, while the loser drops out. After a pair of blowouts by each team the first two games, a solid rubber match would be nice to see.

Following the rubber match, Auburn travels to Birmingham to face UAB in the midweek, while BC comes home to take on Maine. Then, the Tigers come back to The Plains to play three games against Little Rock as BC takes on a challenge in Louisville against the highly ranked Cardinals.
