COLLEGE STATION, Texas– After sweeping their midweek games, the Aggies come into this weekends showdown with New Mexico State at 6-4. The Aggies are currently in the middle of a 10 game homestead which will last until March 16th. The Aggies will look to improve their home record as they are a shocking 4-3 at Olsen on the year. There is a milestone that can be reached this weekend. Coach Rob Childress is sitting on 599 career wins coming into the weekend. With a win on Friday Coach Childress could become the second fastest coach in SEC history to 600 wins.
The Aggies will look to give Childress this milestone as early in the weekend as possible. The Boys of Olsen are going to be rolling out their standard weekend rotation, going with Dustin Saenz on Friday night, and then following up with Bryce Miller on Saturday before finishing with Jonathan Childress on Sunday. New Mexico State comes into the battle of the Aggies at 1-3 on the year. These two teams have met before with the A&M sweeping last years series, 3-0, a series in which they outscored New Mexico State 31-10.
The Boys of Olsen will look to continue their hot starts to games as they have yet to surrender a first inning run, they are currently outscoring opponents 15-0 in the first inning. The Aggies have also been hitting the ball pretty well since their opening weekend series loss to Xavier. In 10 games this year the Aggies are scoring 6.5 runs per game. The Aggies have been lead offensively by Will Frizell who comes in to this weekend’s series with 14 hits, 4 home runs and 8 RBI’s. Frizell is continuing to build off last years early season success. The Aggies have also been getting offensive contributions from the rest of the lineup as well, so they don’t just need to rely on one batter. Eight Aggies currently have more than 5 hits on the year. The Aggies will need their offense to continue to be good if they want to sweep this weekend.
