The Aggies picked up their first win of 2021 on Sunday afternoon, blanking the visiting Musketeers 15-0.
The Aggies rode a strong outing from Jonathan Childress, and the bats finally woke up leading to a 15-0 dismantling of the visitors from Xavier. This was a welcome sign for the Aggies who had only managed 6 runs in their two losses on Saturday.
Childress was dominant striking out 9 in 4.2 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits. The only issue was the 4 walks, but they were all inconsequential as he kept Xavier off the board.
The Aggies were paced offensively by 3 hits from Bryan Sturgess and solo home runs from Hunter Coleman, Will Frizell and Bryce Blaum. The Aggies also had RBI contributions from Austin Bost, Ryan Targac, Mikey Hoehner, and Logan Sartori.
This is the Aggies first win of 2021 and they look to build off of this when they host Albeline Christian and Tarleton State before heading to Round Rock for the weekend.
First pitch of Tuesday’s game will be at 6:30 CST and will be available in SEC Network +
The Aggies scored first in the bottom of the first, when Austin Bost grounded into a fielders choice which plated Sartori.
The Ags then struck for 3 runs in the bottom of the second behind a Bryce Blaum homer and RBI singles by Sartori and Sturges.
Hoehner would double in the 3rd to extend the Aggie lead to 5.
Bryce Blaum plated Minnich on a Sac-Fly in the 5th.
In the 6th inning Frizzell hit his first home run of the year to make it 7-0.
The Aggies then blew it completely open in the bottom of the 7th when they plated 7 runs making the score 14-0.
Hunter Coleman capped off the scoring with his first home run of the year in the bottom of the 8th.
