After nearly a year, it was so great having Georgia Tech baseball back on the field. To make things even better, the Jackets came out and got the opening day victory in 2021.
With a solid pitching effort and many bats contributing, the Jackets scored 12 runs and won big.
Brant Hurter went 4.2 innings, allowing just a run and striking out three. While Jackson Finley got the win, going the next 1.2 innings. But slamming the door on the mound were guys such as, Hugh Chapman and Luke Bartnicki.
Offensively, Stephen Reid, Jake Holland, Drew Compton, Andrew Jenkins, Austin Wilhite, Tres Gonzalez, and Luke Waddell all brought a lot to the plate today and really showed that when the time came to drive in runs and build the lead, they were capable of doing just that.
Unfortunately 3 errors led to EKU scoring some unnecessary runs, but the Jackets limited the damage and regrouped to finish strong and to pull out the win.
Overall, it was a solid game all around and I think today was memorable. Only for the fact that it has been nearly a year since the guys have seen the field against an opponent and to actually have fans in the stands, even if it was 20% capacity.
The Yellow Jackets look to take the series win tomorrow when they face EKU at Russ Chandler Stadium at 2pm.
