
Houston, TX – LSU pitchers Cole Henry (2-1) and Jaden Hill (1 SV) combined for 16 strike outs against the Texas Longhorns in the nightcap at the Shriner’s Hospitals College Classic. Henry pitched 6.0 innings with 10 Ks while Hill picked him up and struck out 6 Longhorns over the final 3 frames.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on a Saul Garza triple, the extended the lead to 2-0 on a Cade Doughty infield single in the second inning.
Texas tied the game 2-2 in the third inning and took a 3-2 in the 4th inning. LSU’s Daniel Cabrera launched a 2 run HR to right field in the 6th to take a 4-3 lead.
LSU reliever, Jaden Hill impressed once again, delivering 3.0 innings of scoreless work while working his fastball in the 96-97 mph range and touching 98 mph and delivering a devastating slider and change-up to counter.
Clutch hitting and even more clutch pitching secured the win for the Tigers. With the baseball victory LSU has secured victories over Texas in football, men’s basketball, and baseball in each most recent meetings.
LSU continues action in the Shriner’s College Classic as they take on Baylor tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm CST in Minute Maid Park. With the win the LSU moves to 7-3 on the year and Texas drops to 9-1.
