
Fullerton, CA – Undefeated Tulane went on the road for the second time this week. They found themselves in Fullerton, CA against a top 25 team.
The Green Wave won Game 1 1-0 in a pitchers match as starter Braden Olthoff (2-0) threw a complete game shutout while striking out 16. Junior Hayden Hastings provided the lone RBI as Tulane took the opening game.
The Green Wave suffered their first loss of the early season in Game 2. Tulane fell behind 3-0 after 3 innings but rallied to make it a 4-3 lead in the seventh. But the Titan bats proved to be too much as they scored 4 more runs. Tulane closed the gap to 7-5 but ultimately fell short.
That set up a rubber match between the Wave and the Titans. It took 13 innings but a late push by Tulane ended up being the difference as the Green Wave won 6-4. Starter Donovan Benoit pitched 5.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 2. Luke Janetta (2-0) pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief work and picked up the win.
The Green Wave picked up an impressive series victory on the road against a very talented CS Fullerton squad. Backed by strong pitching and clutch hitting Tulane was able to secure a solid resumé builder.
The Green Wave return to action on Wednesday against cross-town rival, UNO at 6:30pm CST at Turchin Stadium-Greer Field.
