UT Arlington prepares for tournament play

Photo Credit: UTA Athletics The UT-Arlington Mavericks (3-1) head into Nacadoches this weekend for a tournament against the SFA Lumberjacks (1-3) and the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars (3-0).  The Mavericks will play their first game Saturday morning at 11:00 am with SIUE  and then finish the weekend with a doubleheader on Sunday taking on SIUE and SFA. The Mavericks look to rebound from a 4–0 loss to Dallas Baptist last Tuesday. UTA plans on staying with the starters from last weekend but will switch up the rotation a bit.  Carlos Tavera will open up on Saturday.  David Moffat will go the first game on Sunday then lefty Kody Bullard will sling it for the Mavs in the finale. The pitching staff hopes to pick up where it left off in the series against TAMUCC last weekend compiling the top ERA in the nation at .033. 2020 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award candidate Conner Aube looks to get the Mavericks bats rolling this weekend.  UTA scattered 7 hits against DBU on Tuesday but failed to push a run across the plate.  After an opening day that saw the Mavericks score 7 runs on two home runs, the Mavs have only managed 7 in the following three games.

UTA has 5 starters still looking for their first base hit of the season, but Senior Philip Childs and Andrew Miller look to keep their bats hot.  Childs leads the Mavericks in hitting with a whopping  .714 avg and 3 runs scored.  Andrew Miller leads the team in RBI with 6. SIUE comes into the weekend undefeated on the season with two wins against Nichols State and a win against George Washington. Jared Martin is SFA’s leader in hits with 6 and hopes to help the Lumberjacks rebound from a 13-4 loss to Texas A&M last Tuesday night.
