
Baton Rouge, LA – LSU faced their second straight defending conference champion as they hosted cross-town rival Southern.
LSU found itself down 2-0 after a sloppy second inning that featured an error and a wild pitch. Give Southern credit, as they capitalized on LSU’s mistakes.
Coach Mainieri mentioned in his pregame interview that he would use a variety of pitchers in limited action because of the long week, LSU plays 5 games this week. Lefty Brandon Kaminer got the start, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 2 in 2.0 innings of work. Ma’Khail Hilliard (1-0), who made his 2020 debut, provided 1.0 inning of scoreless work and picked up the victory. Nick Storz pitched 3.0 innings without surrendering a run and struck out 3 while only allowing 2 hits. Mathew Beck recorded 2.0 innings of relief work while Chase Costello pitched the 9th inning giving up 1 run.
The Tigers had another good day at the plate. LSU scored 8 runs on 12 hits. Five of of the hits were for extra bases as the Tigers hit 1 double, 1 triple and 3 home runs on Tuesday. Saul Garza lead all hitters with 3 hits (1 HR), 4 RBI, and 2 runs.
LSU is back in action today as they travel to Thibodaux, LA to take on the Nichols State Colonels at 6:00pm CST.
